Detective Pikachu – amiibo Functions and Unlocks Guide

Detective Pikachu is on the scene with a brand new game and amiibo (and a movie coming later on too!) Detective Pikachu on 3DS features amiibo support, but it’s only compatible with the special Detective Pikachu amiibo – the regular Pikachu amiibo will not unlock anything, neither will any other Pokemon amiibo. The amiibo unlocks in this game are called Pika Prompts. Pika Prompts are short cutscenes triggered by tapping Pikachu on the touch screen while playing the game and will usually involve cute and funny interactions between Pikachu and other Pokemon, or the environment. You can view any Pika Prompts that you’ve encountered while playing the game by selecting the Pika Prompts option from the main menu, but by selecting the amiibo option on the main menu you’ll be able to tap the Detective Pikachu amiibo in order to unlock all the Pika Prompts from the chapters you have completed – even if you haven’t seen them in-game!

You’ll only unlock the Pika Prompts for the chapters you have cleared at the point you tap the amiibo e.g. if you tap the amiibo after clearing the first chapter then you’ll unlock all the Pika Prompts from Chapter 1, whereas if you tap it after clearing Chapter 4 then you’ll unlock all the Pika Prompts from the first four chapters. You can tap the amiibo as many times as you want, so you can tap it after each chapter to see what Pika Prompts you missed out on, or you can save it til the end and tap it once you’ve beaten the game. If you tap the Detective Pikachu amiibo after you’ve cleared the game’s final chapter, then you’ll also unlock all the Pika Prompts that aren’t tied to a specific chapter.
