A new update released for Disney Infinity 3.0 on PS4 yesterday that adds in, amongst other things, the Marvel Battlegrounds content ready for its release later this month. This marks the first time in the series that content for new toys has been patched in at a later date, rather than included on the disc. If you’ve miraculously managed to get any of the March 24th figure releases ahead of time, you’ll be able to play them now. Since the new Marvel content is releasing on the 14th in America, some retailers have broken street date and footage of the new playset, characters, and power discs will likely be popping up over the next few days. But ahead of these releases, what’s really interesting about this update is that it’s revealed some new characters ahead of an official announcement! Some new content in the Toy Store has confirmed that Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the villainous Time from Alice Through the Looking Glass will be playable in Disney Infinity 3.0! Time is also able to be fought as a boss via the Boss Battle Generator Creativitoy.

With the Marvel Battlegrounds content now in the game, the Hall of Super Heroes has been updated to hold the holograms for all the new Marvel characters. While their figures aren’t out here just yet, you can get a quick look at how they’ll play by watching their character trailers in the Hall (or just below this paragraph!) You can see Black Panther getting his claws out, and Ant-Man really growing as a person.

Character Townspeople and Interior Portraits have been added for the new characters, but also for three unreleased characters from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland sequel – Alice herself, her friend the Mad Hatter, and the villain of the new film, Time. These characters are based off the live-action incarnations, but are stylised to look cartoon-y rather than like real people. I really like the style they’ve gone with, because I wasn’t a huge fan of Burton’s Alice but these figures have a nice style that combines elements of the animated characters with Burton’s style, almost like a best of both worlds. This also means that you could now have a four player game with each player using a different Johnny Depp figurine!

Time has also been added to the Boss Battle Generator as a boss you can place in your own Toy Boxes. This adds a little balance to the predominantly Marvel and Stars Wars list of bosses, and also lets us get a sneak peek at how Time will play when he gets added to the game. He has a projectile attack that freezes enemies upon impact, and a special move that immobilises them while they take damage.

One last final addition to the game is the long-awaited Ultimate Unlock. In past Infinity games this was unlocked by owning every figure released for the game, but this time around you only need to get all the figures up to the first wave of Marvel Battlegrounds figures. The Unlock in 3.0 was announced at D23 earlier in the year, and is none other than the Kingdom Key from Kingdom Hearts! Thanks to our friends at Disney Infinity Codes, we can see how this new weapon functions in the game. It has the cool, unique trait of occasionally mixing magical attacks into its combos.

Marvel Battlegrounds and the accompanying figures launch March 24th in Australia. Once we have confirmation of a release date for the Alice figures we will add them into our important dates calendar.
