Nintendo Direct Recap – 4th March 2016

UPDATE: Australian dates have been added.
Another Nintendo Direct just wrapped up, and it was a doozy at 40 minutes in length. There wasn’t too much amiibo news to report on, so we’ll just sum everything up in a single post.
First, a release date was confirmed for Star Fox Zero – it’ll be released on April 23rd and not delayed. It’s also being bundled in a First Print Edition with a download code for Star Fox Guard. Star Fox Guard is a downloadable title that appears to be a reworking of Miyamoto’s ‘Project Guard’ tech demo. It looks like a mix between tower defence games and Five Nights At Freddy’s camera spotting. If you tap your Fox amiibo on the GamePad while playing Zero, it will unlock the retro Arwing from the original Star Fox to play as, as well as some other bonuses that are currently being kept secret
Next up we got a release date for the fourth series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards. They’re coming on June 18th. …yeah, that’s all they said. UPDATE: Nintendo confirmed in promo emails that the Series 4 Collector’s Album will be releasing on the same day. So that’s something.
Finally, Nintendo revealed a new Kirby game for 3DS – Kirby: Planet Robobot. Evil robotic creatures are trying to take over Dreamland, and it’s up to Kirby to stop them! By tapping any amiibo you own, Kirby will be granted an ability! Some amiibo will give random abiliies out of anything in the game, while others will give an ability related to the character whose amiibo you used (e.g. Link gives the Sword ability). But not only that, they announced a whole line of Kirby amiibo! These amiibo will unlock special abilities, and will launch alongside the game on June 11th.

So yeah, there wasn’t a huge amount of amiibo news, but a Kirby range is pretty cool. We’ll add all these dates to our calendar once we have confirmation of Australian dates, and update this post if anymore relevant news sneaks out.
