New Animal Crossing: New Leaf amiibo Details

It was previously revealed that, years after release, Animal Crossing: New Leaf would be getting a free update that adds in amiibo support. Today in the Nintendo Direct there were some new details on this.

The game will be updated with support for all existing Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards at a to-be-revealed date this year, and a new wave of 50 Animal Crossing amiibo cards will be released on December 2nd in the US, but we lucky Aussies get them much earlier on November 10th. These new cards will feature villagers who weren’t present in New Leaf, and will allow you to invite them to stay in your village.

If you don’t own New Leaf, or can’t download the update for one reason or another, then you’ll be able to purchase a re-release of the game subtitled “Welcome amiibo!” that comes with the update already installed. This version of the game will release on November 24th in Australia, and will also come with a free amiibo card from the new series of cards.
