Playable Octolings Finally Coming to Splatoon 2

There was a huge onslaught of Splatoon-related info in today’s Nintendo Direct – not only are the Inklings coming to Super Smash Bros, but Splatoon 2 is set for some major updates. The free Version 3.0 update will be coming in late April and adds over 100 pieces of gear and some new stages that will be gradually rolled out through Autumn – Piranha Pit and Camp Triggerfish from Splatoon 1, and a new stage called Wahoo World. A new rank will also be added to Ranked Matches called Rank X. This mysterious new rank will be higher than an S+ rank but we don’t know anything more than that.

The biggest bit of news, though, is that a paid single-player expansion will be released sometime in Winter. This expansion pack features 80 new levels that will reveal secrets regarding the game’s characters and mythos. But most excitingly… you play as an Octoling! Agent 8 is an amnesiac Octoling who encounters Captain Cuttlefish and the Off the Hook girls. Complete this expansion and you’ll be able to play as an Octoling in multiplayer battles! The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion will cost AUD$30 and can be pre-purchased from the eShop already. Purchasing it will instantly grant you some octo-themed gear.
