Update: Added Australian PR response.

One of the annoying things about Toys to Life games is that eventually older products go out of stock, which means you’re locked out of the content that’s tied to them. You’re then forced to hit up the second-hand market and scalpers, which isn’t an ideal experience when you just want to play a game. You might have noticed a few LEGO Dimensions packs getting harder to find (with some outright disappearing from various retailer sites over here), no doubt selling out after the various sales that have been placed on them. Worryingly, it appears that some of these older sets are being retired and no longer produced. mylz81 on reddit has found that six LEGO Dimensions packs have been marked as Retired Products on the online LEGO Store.

These packs are:

  • Jurassic World Team Pack
  • Scooby-Doo Team Pack
  • Wonder Woman Fun Pack
  • Zane Fun Pack
  • Krusty Fun Pack
  • Cyborg Fun Pack

Obviously you can’t expect a company to keep producing physical products forever, but things start getting a bit iffy when you factor in that these products are tied to specific content in a videogame. From a gameplay perspective, the majority of these packs don’t offer any content that you can’t access through other characters or by renting them in-game using the Hire A Hero system, but for fans of these characters it will be disappointing if they can’t play as these characters anymore. The key issue here, however, is that two of these packs (the Jurassic World Team Pack and the Scooby-Doo Team Pack) are required to open up the Adventure Worlds for these franchises, which contain a significant amount of content that would otherwise be inaccessible.

On the Australian store these packs aren’t listed as Retired, but they aren’t available for purchase. We’ve reached out to LEGO to see if we can find out what’s happening with the packs here, but in the meantime if you see any of these six packs around you might want to buy them ASAP if you don’t want to miss out. And any of the packs from Year 1 (the ones with blue bases) really, because I imagine they’re all in danger of being retired as the game progresses through its second year of content. Update: We got forwarded over to Warner Bros’ PR who told us that while they are out of stock on the Australian LEGO store, they have not been retired in Australia and should still be available through other retailers.
