Legend of Zelda Trading Cards!?

It’s been brought to our attention that EB Games have started taking pre-orders for a series of Legend of Zelda trading cards! It looks like these have been revealed already, but now there’s some more details of what to expect from these cards. They’re listed with a release date of June 30th 2016, and you’ll be able to purchase a $20 Value Box and $6 Booster Packs.
The content of the Value Box is described as follows:
“Each Pack Contains 4 Packs of 6 randomly inserted cards and 1 decal or tattoo, a Poster as well as 1 of 3 Randomly inserted Collectors Pins”
And Booster Packs:
“Each Pack Contains 6 randomly inserted cards and 1 decal or tattoo”
So it sounds like a Value Box is basically a way of getting a discount for buying boosters in bulk, as well as getting a poster and pin as a bonus. Man, temporary tattoos – that takes me back. It’s like the 90’s all over again!
It’s not clear whether these cards make up a competitive game or are just for show. If they’re the former then I’d expect a Starter Set of sorts to surface closer to the release date, because making a deck out of random boosters sounds like a cruel sort of hell. There’s also no pictures of what the cards will look like, and even the images of the packaging on the listing page says it’s concept art, which is… interesting. There’s some details on the structure of the set though, which I’ll copy and paste like a professional.

Note that it specifies these cards are from a “Base Set”, which means that there’s plans for additional sets – and why wouldn’t there be? There’s people already throwing their wallets at the screens for these. Who are definitely not me. No, of course not *panicked sweating* These don’t appear to be amiibo cards due to the lack of amiibo logo, but it’s possible that they could have some other form of interaction with games or apps.
So what do you think? Is a Zelda TCG something that has your interest? These cards are listed for a June 30th release date, which we’ll add into our calendar once we get a chance.
Thanks Bec for the tip!
