Details on the upcoming Skylanders game releasing this year, Imaginators, are leaking out from a variety of sources. The game will be releasing October 13th 2016 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U. Yes, that does mean you’ll need to upgrade if you were playing on Wii or 3DS. Skylanders games always have a gimmick to separate them from each other, like giant figures and vehicles, and Imaginators is no different – this time you’ll be able to create your own Skylanders!

Skylanders will be created using a number of”options of powers, abilities, catchphrases, appearance and much more” and stored to a new type of toy known as Creation Crystals. Creation Crystals come in each element, and can store a single Skylander of that element. So they’re similar to the traps in Trap Team in that regard.

There will be 300+ characters in the game, counting past figures that will be compatible, as well as new characters like the powerful new ‘Sensei’ figures. Senseis are a mix of new original characters and reformed villains from the series, and will belong to one of 10 Battle Classes. These classes include Knights and Sorcerers, and will influence the Sensei’s ultimate Sky Chi move. Sensei will interact with your own custom-made Imaginator characters by unlocking new abilites for them to use and new areas for them to explore.

Storyline Details

“The story of Skylanders Imaginators takes place long ago when the Ancients used a mysterious power known as Mind Magic to create everything in Skylands. With it, they conjured into existence anything that they could imagine. However, they soon learned that in the wrong hands, it could be very dangerous, and so they sealed it away so that it could never be misused. After discovering this ancient secrete, Kaos has unleashed the power of Mind Magic into Skylands once again – and he is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders, the likes of which have never been seen! Now it’s up to Portal Masters to create Skylanders Imaginators from their own imagination to stop Kaos and his evil Doomlanders before it is too late. And to help train them, Eon is sending the greatest mystic warriors of all time – the Senseis!”

The Starter Set will include a portal to place your figures on, along with Master King Pen (a Water Sensei), Golden Queen (an Earth Villain), and a Fire Creation Crystal. A Dark Edition of the Starter Set will be available as well, but the contents ~~are currently unknown~~ have been partially revealed. Images of some of the figures can be seen below, in less-than-desirable quality.

Skylanders Imaginators will release on the 13th of October 2016 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U. We’ll add this date to our calendar.
