Lightseekers

Lightseekers, the upcoming Toys to Life RPG for tablets and mobile, has finished its Kickstarter campaign on a high note, raising $227,660 in funds. The minimum goal for the project was $200,000. Lightseekers will be free to play, but will offer additional experiences for those that purchase tie-in media like figurines and trading cards. It is being developed by Cambridge-based developers PlayFusion, with TOMY handling the manufacturing and distribution of the toys. The game is expected to launch in early 2017, with a beta going live in December for Kickstarter backers.

“We knew when we first met with PlayFusion back in 2014 that the platform they had created was going to not only disrupt the toy and gaming industries, but that it was going to really push the envelope on what a great toy is and can be in the future,” said Sarah Moen, head of toy and hobby for TOMY International.

“Their Kickstarter campaign has put the property on the map in a significant way, and as we work together with PlayFusion to get ready for the American International Toy Fair in February we not only have a great success story to share with the industry, but we have a community of brand advocates that is looking forward to the product being available in early 2017.”

The main toys the game will utilise are the 7″ action figures, which will have a number of two-way interactions with the game. They will light up and speak to you based on what’s happening in the game, and can be equipped with various accessories to unlock stronger weapons or use the figures as controllers in minigames. There will also be other Lightseekers media that will interact with the game, such as a trading card game with over 300 cards at launch. These can be scanned into the game to activate various Augmented Reality features and unlock bonuses within the game.

Lightseekers is aiming for a January 2017 launch for the mobile and tablet versions of the game, with a March 2017 launch for the toy line. A PC/Mac release is planned to come at some point down the line.
