Hyrule Warriors Legends

As they did with Twilight Princess HD earlier this year, Nintendo have released a trailer explaining how amiibo will function in Hyrule Warriors Legends. It’s a little different to how they worked in the original Wii U release, but not by much. Most of these differences are due to new characters and amiibo that have been released since the Wii U version came out.

Tapping amiibo of Legend of Zelda characters will unlock improved equipment for these characters – for example, the Zelda amiibo unlocks weapons for Zelda. A slight difference to the Wii U version is that since Toon Link is now his own character in Legends, the Toon Link amiibo will unlock weapons for him, as opposed to Link. Similarly, the new Wolf Link amiibo will unlock weapons for Midna. These weapons aren’t unique weapons tied to the amiibo, they’re the same as weapons that can be found randomly as loot in the game. They’re just a bit better than the ones you’d have early in the game, so you can give yourself a bit of a boost when you’re first starting off. The Spinner weapon (from Twilight Princess) that was unlocked by tapping the Link amiibo in the Wii U version will be unlocked in-game in Legends, so the Link amiibo will behave the same as other Zelda amiibo.

Any non-Zelda amiibo can also be used in the game, but with less effective rewards. If you tap these amiibo you will receive a random item, like a weapon or some Rupees. These weapons won’t be as good as the ones you get from Zelda amiibo. All amiibo can only be used once per day so that you don’t tap like a madman and have enough powerful items to break the game early on.

Hyrule Warriors Legends releases on 3DS March 24th. To keep up-to-date with all game releases, make sure you keep an eye on our calendar. Please note that there are many reports of the game running poorly on standard 3DS systems, and it’s recommended that if you wish to play this game that you do so on a New 3DS system.
