Splatoon 2 - Salmon Run

The sequel to the hit Wii U game Splatoon (called Splatoon 2, believe it or not) will be releasing on July 21st for Nintendo Switch. The game will be receiving a set of three new amiibo that were previously announced to be launching on July 22nd in a Nintendo Direct we didn’t report on because we were trapped in the Speedforce, plotting our revenge on those who put us there. However Nintendo have now given these amiibo a new Australian release date of July 21st, so you’ll be able to pick them up the same day as the game (which makes an awful lot more sense).

These new amiibo are a set of three Inkling amiibo, but unlike the last set of Inkling amiibo these aren’t just recolours. The new Inkling Boy is showing some attitude, with spiky hair, black clothes and the pose of someone looking for some trouble. The Inkling Girl has some shorter hair and is sporting the new Splat Dualies weapon. And finally, the Inkling Squid is… well, it’s still a squid. But it’s jumping higher! And there’s a bigger ink splash! And it’s purple! So that’s… something.

The amiibo functionality is a bit different from the first game’s – while scanning them will still unlock new gear, you can also save your own loadouts onto the amiibo so that you can load them on another console. Perfect for tournaments and playing on a friend’s console! But by far the best part is a feature that allows you to dress your amiibo character up and hang out with them in Inkopolis like a real friend! They can walk around the city, sitting in cafes and taking in the sights, allowing you to take photos of yourself with your living amiibo friend. It’s the dream, isn’t it? *sighs* One day, my friends, one day.

UM- ER, yes, so that’s three new Splatoon amiibo launching the same day as Splatoon 2 – July 21st.
