Splatoon 2 - Splatfest Demo

There’s still a bit over a week until Splatoon 2 launches on Nintendo Switch, but don’t fret because you’ll be able to try the game out once again this week. Similar to the timed Testfire demos that both Splatoon games have received, this Sunday (July 16th) from 8am-12pm AEST you’ll be able to give Splatoon 2 a shot. However, what’s exciting about this demo is that it’s a Splatfest! If you played the original Splatoon then you’ll know that these festivals were big in-game events where players have to pick where they stand on important issues like whether pineapple belongs on pizza (it doesn’t) and then battling against players on the opposing side. Rewards are then given out depending on how well you played and whether your team came out on top.

While the pop idols of the Splatoon world, Callie and Marie, were the hosts of these contests in the first game, you’ll be rallying around two new cephalopods in Splatoon 2 – Pearl and Marina from Off The Hook! Because in the game’s storyline Callie is dead missing and Marie has since moved out of the spotlight. If you side with Pearl you’ll be fighting for Team Cake, whereas Marina will be leading Team Ice Cream.

While you won’t be able to transfer rewards to the main game next week, it’ll be good to get some more hands-on time with the game before it releases. You can download the Splatoon 2 Splatfest Demo from the eShop right now and go through the tutorial. When that’s done you won’t be able to jump into any matches just yet but you can walk around the main hub and get to know the people and places in Inkopolis. Check out our video of all this below.

Splatoon 2 launches on July 21st for Nintendo Switch, and it will be getting three new amiibo on the same day.
