Sonic the Hedgehog Could Be Speeding into LEGO Dimensions

With the final currently-announced wave of LEGO Dimensions content releasing next week, speculation of Dimensions‘ future is rising. To add fuel to the fire, evidence of new characters and packs have been leaking, getting everyone hyped for what could be on the way. But all of that is nothing compared to a new development – sources are suggesting that Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Dimensions.

Some background information for those who haven’t been following every detail from the beginning – a while back, a list of set numbers for LEGO Dimensions leaked onto Brickset, which has since been removed. This was the list (courtesy of Brick Inquirer):

  • 71242 GB 1
  • 71243 HP 1
  • 71244 S1
  • 71245 AT 1
  • 71246 AT 2
  • 71247 HP 2
  • 71248 MI
  • 71249 AT 3
  • 71250 GB 2
  • 71251 Mr T
  • 71252 KR
  • 71253 FB 1
  • 71254 TTG 1
  • 71255 TTG 2
  • 71256 GR 1
  • 71257 FB 2
  • 71258 ET 1
  • 71259 Connectable 1
  • 71260 Connectable 2
  • 71261 Connectable 3
  • 71262 Connectable 4
  • 71263 Connectable 5

The important one there is ‘71244 S1’. Some of these abbreviations were easy to make some guesses about (HP was obviously Harry Potter, for example), but S1? Not so much. Could it have been a new Starter Set? Another Simpsons pack? Stargate? Well, some comments that Brick Inquirer has found suggest that the S is for Sonic, meaning that Sonic the Hedgehog will be speeding through Vorton some time in the future. CM4Sci, a poster who has provided accurate information about LEGO releases in the past, posted on Eurobricks confirming that Sonic is indeed coming.

But not only that, they also made some comments about some of the other sets there. They didn’t reveal the names of these sets, but said those will be posted some time soon. First up is KR (which most people assume is referring to Knight Rider). They didn’t seem to impressed by this franchise’s inclusion, saying it’s “pretty dumb” and they’re not sure why it’s being added. They then stressed that this is because they’ve never “watched” it, and said the same of GR (no idea what that could be) and MI (likely Mission Impossible). ‘Watched’ is the key word there – it means these are either movies or TV shows, not games, comics, or similar. Given the inclusion of ‘classic’ franchises like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, Knight Rider and Mission Impossible would fit right in with the Dimensions cast. KR could also stand for Kamen Rider, but I think that’d be getting a little too obscure for Dimensions‘ target audience. No idea what GR could stand for, the only think that comes to mind is Ghost Rider which definitely isn’t happening.

So, will this push you over the (h)edge and convince you to buy Dimensions? Got an idea of what ‘GR’ could stand for?
