Shovel Knight’s New amiibo Function is Off With the Fairies
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be available at launch for the Nintendo Switch. This is a version of Shovel Knight that includes all currently released and announced add-on content, including the Specter of Torment expansion (which will also have a standalone release at launch). Treasure Trove will feature all the amiibo features from the Wii U and 3DS versions of Shovel Knight, but is also bringing in one new one. The store pages for Treasure Trove and Specter of Torment mentioned being able to summon a ‘Spirit of Shovelry’ using your Shovel Knight amiibo, but didn’t elaborate on what that actually meant. This morning Yacht Club Games have provided more details on this new feature.
In all three Shovel Knight campaigns (Shovel of Hope, Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment) a new character has been added – a fairy known as Madame Meeber. Visiting her and using your Shovel Knight amiibo will allow her to summon a Fairy of Shovelry to accompany you on your quest.
The Fairy of Shovelry will try to fight enemies, search for treasure, and just generally look totally adorable. Yacht Club Games have ensured that he won’t get in your way and be a nuisance, he’s just there to make things a little less lonely for you.
All current versions of Shovel Knight will be upgraded to the Treasure Trove edition in April, so you’ll also be able to hang with this little cutey on those platforms a bit later, but the Switch version will be the first to feature it. The Nintendo Switch launches tomorrow, March 3rd.
