Starfox Supercharged

A new week means a new price guide – yeah, I remembered this time, woohoo! This week’s headliner is the release of Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard on Wii U, in which you can use your Fox and Falco amiibo to unlock some new ships to pilot. Another new release is Skylanders Battlecast, the new Cards to Life game from Activision that saw a stealthy release at the end of last week.

Star Fox comes in two editions – the standard edition, which comes with Star Fox Zero by itself, and the First Print Edition which comes with Star Fox Zero, a physical copy of Star Fox Guard (a new spin-off game), and a steelbook case. You can also by each game digitally, but if you want a physical copy of Guard then you’ll need to buy the First Print Edition. The cheapest price is a little hard to calculate because of the differing price of physical and digital copies, so bear with me.

On the Nintendo eShop, you can get Zero and Guard digitally for $79.95 and $19.50 respectively. However, buying one gets you a discount on the other, bringing Zero down to $73.45 and Guard down to $13. So your total for both games together will be $92.95.

Ozgameshop is offering a PAL import copy of Zero for $59.99 + shipping, and Australian stock for $64.99 + shipping. Keep in mind though that you’ll need to pay for shipping costs and might not get it for a few days after release, so this may not be the best option. You do get some of the purchase price back in points that can be redeemed for store credit, so that’s worth keeping in mind if you buy from them regularly.

Locally, the best price for Zero by itself is from Big W, who are selling it for $64. However, Target don’t have the game listed in their catalogue at the moment so I don’t know if they’ll have it beat or not. Their catalogue will be live later in the week so I’ll update as necessary.

If you’re after the First Print Edition, you’re out of luck when it comes to deals. Big W and Target’s catalogues don’t have it listed, and the stores that do (EB Games and JB Hi-Fi) both have it listed at $99.95. MightyApe have it for $88, but you’ll need to pay for shipping costs and might not get the game at launch, so that’s something you need to consider. If you don’t care about having a physical copy of Guard then the cheapest way to get both games is currently to buy a physical copy of Zero from Big W for $64, and then buying Guard digitally for $19.50, bringing your total to $83.50.

Skylanders Battlecast was suddenly released last week, which means we get it before America, wahoo! This is a trading card game for mobile devices that allows you to scan in physical cards to add them to your collection. We’ll be posting some more in-depth impressions later on, for now we’re focusing on the prices.

The app is available for free, and gives you enough cards to make a deck. By playing the game you can gradually earn more cards as a reward, but the quickest way to get new cards is to buy them.

Big W has the cheapest prices on both varieties of card pack available. The first are Battle Packs, which are being sold for $12. There are two kinds of Battle Pack that you can buy – the first has Spyro, Snap Shot and Stormblade on the front, while the other has Trigger Happy, Hex, and Smash Hit on the front. Each Battle Pack has 22 cards in them – both of the Battle Packs have a number of set cards that you’re guaranteed to get, but the remainder of the pack is random. So if you buy two Spyro packs you’re guaranteed to get some duplicates, but most of the cards within will be different.

The second kind of packs are Booster Packs. These contain 8 cards, some of which are guaranteed to be rare, but there’s no set cards like in a Battle Pack. You can get these for $6 from Big W.

If there’s no Big W stores nearby, or they’re sold out, then you can get Battle Packs and Booster Packs at $14.95 and $6.95 respectively, from EB Games and Mighty Ape. I haven’t seen the cards advertised anywhere else.

In more general Toys to Life deals, Big W are advertising the Marvel Battlegrounds figures for Disney Infinity at $15 each, and 40% off the rest of the toys. This means playsets are $23.40, and figures are $10.20. You’d think they’d just shave off those weird cent amounts, but eh.

Big W Infinity Deal

Meanwhile, Target are advertising Infinity figures from $10 each, which in the past has meant all but the newest ones will be that price. This catalogue ends Wednesday, so there’ll likely be new deals later in the week. I’ll update the post once they’ve got a new catalogue live.

No mention of amiibo, LEGO Dimensions, or Skylanders figures in the catalogues, but the JB Hi-Fi Infinity and Dimensions deals we posted last week are still valid til May. Anything take your fancy this week?
