One of the Wii U’s biggest success stories was Splatoon, a new IP handled by some of Nintendo’s younger staff that was a radical departure from what multiplayer shooters traditionally are. It’s no surprise then that a new installment in the series was shown off for the Nintendo Switch in Nintendo’s presentation earlier today. And yes, it’s Splatoon 2, not an enhanced port of the original game as was previously expected.

The sequel will sport fresh new stages, fashion and weapons as well as new features like voice chat support through use of the upcoming Nintendo Switch mobile app. While it’s presumed that the game will be amiibo-compatible since the original game was, and the Splatoon series has 8 amiibo available, nothing has been confirmed yet.

The game will retain the gyro controls from the original, which is sure to please the diehard fans, but the controls will undergo some tweaking in order to work with the new controllers. In the first game you could Super Jump to other players’ positions by tapping their location on the map, but since you can play Splatoon 2 with controllers that don’t have touch screens (like the Switch Pro Controller), you can now Super Jump by pressing buttons.

You can view the game’s reveal trailer below, which shows off some of the new content like a dodge maneuver and weapons like the Splat Dualies that you can dual-wield (as you probably surmised from the name). The trailer even gives us a look at the best Squid Sister as decided by Splatfest. An exact release date for the game has yet to be set, but it will be launching some time in the Australian winter.
