New Super Mario Odyssey Details from the Nintendo Direct, Including amiibo Functions

Super Mario Odyssey received a lengthy segment in today’s Nintendo Direct showing off a host of details about the game, including the game’s amiibo functions. If you get stuck trying to find Power Moons hidden within the game’s many kingdoms (think Power Stars from Super Mario 64 or Shine Sprites from Sunshine) then you can visit the Hint Toad and his companion Uncle amiibo. When you’ve met with them you can tap an amiibo to reveal a Power Moon from that world on your map. The three Wedding amiibo launching alongside the game have some additional functionality – each one unlocks a wedding outfit (the functions of which are unknown) and will give you some form of power-up. Mario will grant you temporary invincibility, Peach will give you a Life-Up Heart and Bowser will reveal the location of one of the current world’s regional coins on the map, which are used to purchase new outfits. The Wedding outfits will also be unlockable through normal gameplay.

Super Mario Odyssey launches October 27th for the Nintendo Switch, alongside the three wedding amiibo. If you’re yet to pick up a Nintendo Switch then a bundle containing a console, Red JoyCons and a copy of the game will be available at launch.
