The LEGO Batman Movie

The LEGO Batman Movie is being released in Australia well after the US and UK are getting it (March 30th compared to their February 10th), because Roadshow evidently haven’t learnt their lesson. Caught in the crossfire of this are two LEGO Dimensions packs that contain content from the films – these were released the same day as the movie overseas, but unfortunately we have to wait until our movie release date before we can buy them. Or rather, we would if it weren’t 2017 and we couldn’t just import them from overseas. If you’ve done so and received your packs, you might have realised that the DLC packs required to play these packs haven’t been made available to us yet in a futile attempt to make sure we don’t experience anything LEGO Batman Movie-related ahead of the movie’s release date. But all is not lost – you can use some workarounds to download the content required for the LEGO Batman Movie packs, it’s just a bit more of a hassle than you should really have to go through. Apologies if this info is slightly off, I’m only really familiar with the process on PS3 and PS4.

PlayStation consoles

If you’re playing on PlayStation, you’ll need to set yourself up with an account based in the UK so that you can access the European PSN store. It needs to be a UK account because American DLC generally isn’t compatible with Australian games. To do this, go to the PlayStation Store’s website and select ‘Create an account’. For the location, select United Kingdom, and for the county select England. With your UK account set up, log into your PlayStation with that account. You’ll be prompted to add a city and postcode to your account. These are easy enough to find online, but to save you the trouble enter SL5 8NA as the postcode and Ascot as the city – that’s where I lived when I was in the UK!

When you sign in on PS4 for the first time, you’ll be prompted to activate the console as that account’s primary console – I’m not 100% sure if that’s required to get this working, but it can prevent a lot of account-related issues so you should definitely do it.

Whatever PlayStation you’re using, you can now open the game while logged in with the UK account. Go to the Add-On Content menu as you normally would and the LEGO Batman pack will be available to download. DLC works across all accounts, so once it’s installed you can play the new content on your regular account with no hassles.

Xbox consoles

The process is a lot simpler on Xbox One, as you just need to change a few settings. Open up the Settings app. From there, select System and then Language & Location. DLC isn’t region locked on this console, so you can change your region to United States to keep things simple. When you’ve changed your region, start LEGO Dimensions and the LEGO Batman Movie pack will be available to download from the Add-On Content menu. You can then quit and revert your region to Australia, and then play the game like you normally would.

On Xbox 360 however, things appear to be a lot more complicated and involve setting up a VPN. I haven’t tried this myself, so I can’t offer any further help than that guide, I’m afraid. Once you’ve set all that up you’ll need to load LEGO Dimensions, where the LEGO Batman Movie pack will be available to download from the Add-On Content menu. Once they’ve been downloaded you can quit the game, disable the VPN and play normally.

Wii U

On Wii U you’ll need to change some settings and set up a new Nintendo Network ID. First, change the region of your Wii U to United Kingdom.  Make sure you select United Kingdom because of the Wii U’s region lock.

Then, while the region is set to UK, create a new user on your console and follow the prompts to create a new Nintendo Network ID for that account. After that user is set up and signed in, run LEGO Dimensions. Go into the Add-On Content menu and the LEGO Batman pack should be there for download. Once they’ve been downloaded you can switch switch the region back to Australia, sign into your regular account, and play the game normally.

Hopefully that helped! In case you’ve forgotten, the Knight Rider Fun Pack for Dimensions released today in Australia (EB Exclusive!), and the update for that was released to us just in time. The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack and Fun Pack release March 30th in Australia, followed by Wave 8 in May.
