The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Champion amiibo Functions and Gameplay

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has just received some new amiibo based off the four Champions in the game who fought against Calamity Ganon alongside Link – Mipha, Daruk, Revali and Urbosa. Just like the other Zelda amiibo these will give you loot drops in the game that have a chance of giving you some exclusive equipment (alongside other goodies).

Divine Beast Helmets

When you tap any of the four new amiibo while the amiibo rune is active, it will drop a treasure chest and some items for you to pick up. Inside the chance there’s a chance of getting an exclusive helmet designed to look like that Champion’s Divine Beast. You can only use each amiibo once per day, so if you want these helmets then save before you tap the amiibo and reload if the helmet isn’t inside the chest.

These helmets are like improved versions of the Ancient Helm already in the game. They have the same defence value, require the same materials to upgrade, and also reduce the damage taken from guardians. The game doesn’t list Guardian Resist Up as an ability on this gear but the effect still applies. Here you can see the effect of a Guardian Scout’s attack on me when I’m wearing a 12 defence pair of pants on the left, compared to the effect of the same Guardian’s attack when I’m wearing a 12 defence Divine Beast helm. There’s a definite reduction in damage.

Another similar trait these helmets share with the Ancient Helm is that when you upgrade them to Level 2, they will provide the Ancient Proficiency set bonus when you equip it along with Level 2 Ancient Armour and Ancient Greaves. To upgrade these helmets you will need 5 Ancient Screws and 5 Ancient Springs, and then another 15 Ancient Springs and 10 Ancient Gears. This means upgrading all four helmets will require 20 Ancient Screws, 80 Ancient Springs and 40 Ancient Gears. Better go harvest some Guardians then!

Each helmet also has one extra ability that’s related to the environment and element of its respective Divine Beast. These abilities stack with the abilities from other gear but will not provide you with that set’s bonus ability for equipping three matching pieces of equipment. Keep reading for the details on which helmet and loot each amiibo will give you.

Mipha amiibo

Breath of the Wild - Mipha amiibo

Mipha is the Zora Champion who piloted the Divine Beast Vah Ruta. As such, her amiibo will give you a selection of fish. The treasure chest that drops will either give you a Silverscale Trident with a bonus trait or the Vah Ruta Divine Helm. This Divine Helm gives you the Swim Speed Up Level 1 ability.

Daruk amiibo

Breath of the Wild - Daruk amiibo

Daruk is the Goron Champion who piloted the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. His amiibo will give you a selection of ore as well as a treasure chest. This chest will either give you a Stone Smasher with a bonus trait or the Vah Rudania Divine Helm. This helmet gives you the Flame Guard Level 1 ability.

Revali amiibo

Breath of the Wild - Revali amiibo

Revali is the Rito Champion who piloted the Divine Beast Vah Medoh. His amiibo will give you fruit and arrows. Inside the treasure chest that drops from the sky you’ll either find a Falcon Bow with a bonus trait or the Vah Medoh Divine Helm. This helmet gives you the Cold Resistance Level 1 ability.

Urbosa amiibo

Breath of the Wild - Urbosa amiibo

Urbosa is the Gerudo Champion who piloted the Divine Beast Vah Naboris. Her amiibo will give you different raw meats and a treasure chest. This chest will either include a Moonlight Scimitar with a bonus trait or the Vah Naboris Divine Helm. This Divine Helm gives you the Shock Resistance Level 1 ability.

The four Champion amiibo launch today, November 10th, in Australia. They are only available in single packs, not in a four-pack set.
